We filmed this whilst on tour in Tokyo. We were so inspired by Tokyo and the view from Romy’s hotel room on the 33rd floor, that we asked our friend Jamie-James Medina to film us recording a version of Angels in there.Love, The xx

“It’s been a long time since we’ve played you anything new. This song is called Angels, it is the first single from our new album, Coexist. We’ve been playing this song live recently, so it feels good to share with you the version we’ve been working on for so long. We hope you like it. xx The xx”

The xx and Handsome Tours would like to thank fans for their overwhelming response to the band’s announcement of an intimate Australian tour this July, which went on sale through a ballot two weeks ago. The two shows at The Forum Theatre in Melbourne on Wednesday 18 July 2012 and The Metro in Sydney on Friday 20 July 2012 sold out immediately. Jamie xx solo shows also went on sale last week and sold out in minutes.

Demand for tickets to all of the shows exceeded everyone’s expectations and Handsome would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused throughout the ticketing process.

While no further shows will be added to the upcoming July tour, The xx and Handsome Tours would like to assure fans that plans are already underway for a larger return tour in 2013. To thank everyone for their patience and support all who entered the ballot will be offered priority pre-sale tickets to the 2013 shows once they are announced, so stay tuned for further information.

Last week the Mercury Music Prize winning UK artists announced the details of their forthcoming album Coexist, to be released in Australia on 7 September 2012 via Young Turks / Remote Control. Coexist was produced by The xx’s Jamie Smith and was recorded between November 2011 and May 2012 in the band’s own studio in London.
Coexist is the follow-up release to The xx’s debut album xx. Released in August 2009, xx achieved gold sales in Australia, platinum sales in the UK, and accumulated over 1.3 million sales worldwide. The album has also been awarded the highly prestigious Mercury Music Prize, The Guardian’s First Album Award, Album of the Year by both Rough Trade Shops and XFM, and two South Bank and one NME Award nominations.

The xx – Oliver Sim, Romy Madley Croft and Jamie Smith (Jamie xx) – formed in 2005 at London’s Elliot School, the alma mater of notable alumni Hot Chip, Burial and Four Tet. Bonding over a shared love of dark, emotive 80s guitar sounds and the high-end sheen of American R&B, The xx’s unique sound befits a band whose wide range of influences combine beautiful, hushed vocal duets and a brilliantly inventive use of samples and low-end frequencies to produce stark, sweet, melancholic pop.

In addition, Jamie xx has crafted a name for himself as one of the world’s hottest producers, with his brilliant 2011 underground hit ‘Far Nearer’ and remixes for the likes of Adele, Radiohead and Gil Scott-Heron. Drake and Rhianna’s ‘Take Care’, a rework of Jamie xx and Gil Scott-Heron’s ‘I’ll Take Care of U’, was a worldwide #1 hit and The xx remix of Florence & The Machine’s ‘You’ve Got The Love’ was also a massive internet sensation.
