Melbourne’s chaotic Audio/Visual two piece friendships have today released their debut LP Nullarbor 1988-1989 via Dot Dash / Remote Control Records and US label Mansion Records.
The highly anticipated debut comes packaged as an impressive double disk 12″ vinyl in custom ‘friendships Gutter Death Red’. The first physical from the duo includes original hand painted cover art by friendships and collaborations with Melbourne artists such as HABITS, thelovelyme, Yaw Faso, and Unsoundbwoy.
“The Nullarbor plain is the physical body of land that links Misha and I (Jerramungup, Western Australia & Footscray, Victoria), We have conceptually created an audio visual representation to the Nullarbor in 1988-1989 isolation,” says Nic Brown of friendships.
“Sonically I wanted to draw from these ideas and set the listener in a scene, burning down the Nullarbor plain in a Holden V8, ciggie puffing out the window, running away from your life, the road folding around you like a blanket.”
The album includes past releases such as ‘When I Feel Like Killing, I Murder’ and ‘Pedal To The Metal’ and the too-soon-surely ‘The Roof’, detailing the near-death experience which almost put a fatal end to the act during their CMJ Showcase Tour in New York last year.
The latest single is ‘Move (Fast),’ a high tension heater, featuring the rapid-fire, otherworldly vocals of Yaw Faso and Unsoundbwoy. Upon close listening, the track harbours a looming synth line which echoes that of ‘When I Feel Like Killing, I Murder,’ revealing a sense of cogency amongst the seemingly chaotic Nullarbor 1989-1999.
