SOAK has premiered the video for latest single ‘Reckless Behaviour’, taken from the beautiful debut album Before We Forgot How To Dream out now via Rough Trade / Remote Control. Having been shortlisted for the 2015 Mercury Prize – the youngest female nominee for seven years!
Director Bob Gallagher (who’s also made films for label-mates Girl Band) writes of ‘Reckless Behaviour’: “when I first saw SOAK perform a few years ago the thing that struck me most was that there is a really tangible sense of empathy to Bridie’s songwriting. You get the impression that she’s writing for someone, in a way that’s genuinely very caring and reassuring. I tried to get that sense of empathy across in Jo, the older character played by Fiona York. Jo is a thief so she’s very observant. I think she sees elements of herself in the younger character played by Dani Hiro. The video is about what two people observe in each other and how that makes them relate in a way that transcends their difference in age or their backgrounds.”
Catch SOAK performing with a full live band in January this year! Tour details can be found here.
Our friends EL VY have shared the video for ‘No Time To Crank The Sun’. The band made a promise to eeping with their to create a video for every track on their debut album, ‘Return To The Moon’ which is out now! Directed by Tom Berninger (Matt’s sibling, director of the award-winning Mistaken For Strangers film and creator of all preceding EL VY videos thus far), the video pieces together behind-the-scenes footage of Matt Berninger and Brent Knopf.
EL VY is a project Matt Berninger and Brent Knopf have been thinking about for years. Their friendship spans nearly a decade, starting back when the National and Brent’s previous band Menomena played small half-empty clubs along America’s west coast. Finally, in the winter and spring of 2014-15, they actually got together to make an album and it is pretty great!

Wild Nothing, a.k.a Brooklyn-based musician Jake Tatum, is pleased to announce his third-studio album, ‘Life of Pause’, will be released Friday 19th February via Captured Tracks / Remote Control Records.
Watch the first two cuts from from the album; ‘TV Queen’ and ‘To Know You,’ both of which can be streamed via the video link below.
When Jack Tatum began work on Life of Pause he had fascinating ambitions. “I desperately wanted for this to be the kind of record that would displace me,” he says. “I’m terrified by the idea of being any one thing, or being of any one genre. And whether or not I accomplish that, I know that my only hope of getting there is to constantly reinvent. That reinvention doesn’t need to be drastic, but every new record has to have it’s own identity, and it has to have a separate set of goals from what came before.”
Life of Pauseis an exquisitely arranged and beautifully recorded collection of songs that marry the immediate with the indefinable. “I allowed myself to go down every route I could imagine even if it ended up not working for me,” he says. “I owe it to myself to take as many risks as possible. Songs are songs and you have to allow yourself to be open to everything.”
Daughter – the London-based trio of singer/guitarist Elena Tonra, guitarist/producer Igor Haefeliand drummer Remi Aguilella – have launched a second new song, the soaring and devastating ‘Numbers’.
The second of a visual trilogy created by filmmakers Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard (behind the BAFTA-nominated Nick Cave feature film 20,000 Days on Earth), ‘Numbers’ takes its narrative from the short story ‘Windows’ – one of three works of fiction written by Stuart Evers and commissioned by Daughter.
YES! The incredible Empress Of has shared the third single from her debut album Me, out September 11 on Terrible Records.
Reflecting the deeply personal themes of Me, the video for “How Do You Do It” was filmed in Lorely’s hometown of Los Angeles and plays out like a personal travelogue giving viewers an intimate look inside the life of Empress Of. “On tour, I spend 23 hours of my day driving, flying, shaving my legs in gross venue bathrooms, sleeping on floors or in motels…to get to that one hour of bliss on stage. I wanted to make a video about this other side of being an artist,” explains Lorely.
