Niche Productions is thrilled to present the first-ever Australian live headline concerts by Soul Music and RnB legend Bobby Womack with his thirteen piece band.

Starting his career in the sixties with The Valentinos and as guitarist for Sam Cooke, Bobby Womack has written and recorded some of the world’s biggest hits including The Rolling Stones’ ‘It’s All Over Now,’ with his career enjoying so many resurgences thanks to his timeless appeal. Other classic material from the era includes collaborations with Aretha Franklin, George Benson (‘Breezin’), Janis Joplin (‘Trust Me’), Sly & The Family Stone (‘There’s A Riot Goin’ On’), Ray Charles, Rufus & Chaka Khan, Patti Labelle and Marvin Gaye as well as his own soundtrack to the film ‘Across 110th Street,’ whose title track would be later used as the theme song to Quentin Tarantino’s film ‘Jackie Brown.’

In 2010, one year after he was inducted in to the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame, Bobby Womack reappeared as a performing and touring member of the most recent incarnation of Damon Albarn’s Gorillaz project. The single ‘Stylo’, with its incredible video clip featuring Bruce Willis would thrust Womack back in to the spotlight and set the scene for his comeback record, 2012’s ‘The Bravest Man In The Universe.’
Produced and co-written by Albarn and Richard Russell and featuring a superb duet with Lana Del Rey in ‘Dayglo Reflection,’ ‘The Bravest Man…’ garnered four star reviews from The Gaurdian and also polled favourably with NME and the Chicago Tribune.

Appearing in Australia for the very first time for his own headline shows at some of the country’s most prestigious venues, Bobby Womack’s debut headline performances will be realised with all of the majesty that this exceptional talent deserves and Australian audiences expect. Do not miss the chance to see a living legend performing songs from one of the greatest catalogues in Soul Music history with a thirteen piece band.

Following the success of his intimate headline dates in July 2012 – with all shows selling out in under one minute – Handsome Tours are pleased to announce solo shows for Jamie xx in Perth, Melbourne and Sydney this March and April. The dates come as part of The xx’s previously announced Australian tour, which has seen almost instant venue sell-outs and second shows added due to epic demand.

Catch Jamie xx performing in Perth on Sunday 31 March at The Bakery, over the Easter long weekend.

Jamie will also perform late shows in Melbourne on Friday 5 April at the Prince Bandroom, and Sydney on Saturday 6 April at the Metro Theatre. These two gigs follow the previously announced shows by The xx earlier in the evening, and will have late starting times to accommodate.

General public tickets to see Jamie xx are on sale Wednesday 6 March at 12pm AEDT.

The past few years have been meteoric for Jamie xx, who has earned a name for himself as one of the world’s hottest producers. In 2011 he crafted the underground hit ‘Far Nearer’ and collaborated with Gil Scott-Heron on the album We’re New Here, a re-envisioned version of Scott-Heron’s 2010 masterpiece I’m New Here. We’re New Here features Jamie’s brilliant remixes of ‘NY Is Killing Me’ and ‘I’ll Take Care of U’, which was later reworked by Drake and Rihanna for their worldwide #1 ‘Take Care’. In 2011, Jamie also reworked Radiohead’s track ‘Bloom’ for their remix album TKOLRMX123456.

UK indie trio The xx have quickly become one of the most in demand acts on the planet, and they’re bringing their incredibly atmospheric and captivating live show back Down Under this April. General tickets will go on sale Tuesday 15 January, 12.00pm midday AEDT.

First hitting Australian shores as part of the Laneway Festival back in 2010, the precociously talented trio – Jamie Smith, Romy Madley Croft and Oliver Sim – pre-empted the release of their latest album

Coexist in July 2012 by playing two triumphant Australian shows which sold out in minutes. Not to be outdone, Smith – who under his alter-ego Jamie xx is rapidly building a global reputation as a formidable producer and remixer – also sold out two solo shows in the same cities in next to no time.

To coincide with the tour announcement, The xx’s new single ‘Sunset’ is at radio now.

Watch The xx perform ‘Sunset’ live below.

Listen to Jamie xx edit of ‘Sunset’ below.

The band’s second album, Coexist, was one of the most eagerly-awaited releases of 2012, and the wait proved to be more than worth it when the record finally dropped in September. Coexist impressively debuted at number two on the ARIA charts, with similar chart-topping results around the globe. It was roundly lauded by both critics and fans alike as being a more than worthy successor to their acclaimed 2009 self-titled debut, which among a slew of similar awards and accolades garnered them the prestigious Mercury Prize in 2010, and has achieved Gold sales here in Australia.

But now, with their new album under their arms and their stocks at an all-time high, The xx are returning to Australia to bring their minimalist, melancholic and emotive music to the masses once more! Don’t expect demand to be any less intense this April when The xx return to unveil the gorgeous arrangements and aural delights of Coexist in the live setting, alongside the early favourites which made them so revered to so many so damn quickly.

Vampire Weekend have announced an exclusive headline show at Sydney’s Metro Theatre, coinciding with the band’s Big Day Out performances.

Across two critically acclaimed albums, Vampire Weekend has perfected an anthology of songs filled with their signature horns and strings, dreamy vocal harmonies and upbeat indie charm.

First making their name on the scene with their eponymous debut album Vampire Weekend, the LP scored an 8.8 rating on Pitchfork, four spots in Triple J’s Hottest 100 Countdown of 2008 and sold more than 800,000 copies worldwide.

Their Grammy nominated sophomore release Contra followed, introducing the band’s dedicated fans to new favourites like ‘Cousins’, ‘Horchata’, ‘Giving Up The Gun’ and ‘White Sky’. This record cemented Vampire Weekend as one of the seminal artists of recent times, debuting at #1 on the Billboard Chart and selling more than half a million copies in America alone.

For the past year, Vampire Weekend have taken their time to create and sharpen the songs that will become their yet to be released third studio album. The quartet have been pursuing different projects, gaining inspiration and experiences that they will inevitably compile together for a fresh perspective on a sound that is uniquely their own.

Those lucky enough to attend Vampire Weekend’s Sydney show will be treated to one of the first tastes of the quartet’s latest offering. While there is still no official word on the LP’s release, the band debuted the track ‘Unbelievers’ on Jimmy Kimmel Live earlier this month to the delight of Vampire Weekend lovers across the globe.

Don’t miss the chance to snap up a ticket to what is set to be a mesmerising performance from Vampire Weekend. With the promise of new material, classic crowd singalongs and toe tapping tracks on their way, tickets to this show are sure to sell swiftly.

Returning from an eventful CMJ appearance and string of shows in NYC, Teeth & Tongue is back on home turf, playing shows in Melbourne and Sydney this week to celebrate the release of new single and video ‘The Party Is You’.

Together with band members Marc Regueiro-McKelvie and Damian Sullivan, Teeth & Tongue (AKA Jess Cornelius) will play a set of brand new, unreleased material full of oddball drum machine rhythms, guitars that sound like synths and synths that sound like guitars, all washed over with that distinctive voice.

On the making of the video for ‘The Party Is You’ Jess Cornelius says, “I put a call out on Twitter to see if anyone would be up for making us a free video, and Alifeleti was one of the directors who put their hand up. Originally I thought the weird drunk girl in the clip would be me, but luckily we found someone else to do it so I didn’t have to. The main idea was for her to be trying to get random strangers to dance with her. It morphed into her getting kicked out of lots of bars and parties, but I think she’s still endearing.”

Tuesday 20 November
Pop up performance (solo) at Alice Euphemia, City , as part of Melbourne Music Week.

Thursday 22 November
Little King Café, Shop 4 209 Flinders Lane, Melbourne

After releasing ninth album Sun earlier this year, US songstress Chan Marshall aka Cat Power will return to Australia & NZ for an extensive run of dates in February & March 2013.

In a press release from early 2009 Cat Power suggested her days with Dirty Delta Blues (her illustrious backing band including members of Dirty Three and The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion) maybe drawing to a close. Turns out that was no idle threat… her current touring band includes just one former-DDB member, keyboardist, Gregg Foreman. The remaining members, all women, having been drawn from lengthy auditions.

Sun, the first Cat Power album of all self-penned material in six years, also follows that reinvention with all tracks, bar those on lead single ‘Ruin’ (the sole contribution by Dirty Delta Blues), having been played and produced by Cat Power herself.

“Written, played and produced on her own, this is the rebirth of Cat Power… It’s an inspirational album that’s musically very strong.” – Yen Magazine

“Her most joyful, sonically adventurous album to date, the best record she’s ever made… One of 2012’s biggest surprises and best records: an irresistible collection from an inspired, fearless and curious artist.” – NPR

Visually too, changes are apparent. Gone are the trademark locks, replaced instead by a mohawk. Mad Max style. A statement of intent. While the revised stage show takes on arena-like proportions. This is Cat Power circa 2012.

“Marshall’s grandiose lighting and projections — travel photos, radiant sunlight, a giant gorilla, intermingling with a triangular LED-speckled picture frame — Crazy schemes for indie acts wanting to leave a lasting impression, going quite literally for broke laying everything on the line.” – The Vancouver Sun

“When I moved to New York in 1992, I had a severe breakup and I cut my hair super-duper short. And that’s the (Sun) album cover. At first, I just cut all of the damn length off. Four months ago I had a difficult time, not a midlife crisis, like a midlife awesomeness, and during whatever I was going through, I just kept going shorter and shorter. The “Cherokee” video is kind of apocalyptic. I had a mohawk the summer of seventh grade, but I had never dyed my hair before, so this time I did.” – The Daily Beast

With all that awesomeness in mind, Feel Presents are proud to once again bring Cat Power to Australian and New Zealand shores. Touring at the invitation of Meredith’s Golden Plains Festival and the Perth International Arts Festival, this is Cat Power’s most extensive antipodean tour to date and follows 2010′s sold out national tour.

From Halifax/Montreal, Canada, Purity Ring are one of the most intriguing new acts in left field pop.

Just announced for Golden Plains Festival in March, the duo will bring their otherworldly rapture to Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.

Corin Roddick and Megan James, both in their early twenties, formed Purity Ring in late 2010. Midway through 2012, they released their assured debut record Shrines on 4AD/Remote Control, introducing the world to their eerie, inviting universe.

They recently enlisted rapper Danny Brown for a sequel to Shrines Belispeak entitled “Belispeak II”. The duo make lullabies for the club, drawing equally from airy 90s R&B, lush dream pop, and the powerful, bone-rattling immediacy of modern hip hop. Megan’s remarkable voice is at once ecstatic and ethereal, soaring joyfully through Corin’s carefully chopped beats, trembling synths, and skewed vocal samples.

The first song their collaboration produced was ‘Ungirthed’, which became the launching pad for what is now being heralded as future pop.

“It makes an LP that feels ancient and futurist.” – The Age, 5 stars

Purity Ring enthralls their audience with a carefully considered live show formed around a dynamic tree shaped lighting rig. Built by Corin himself, it literally brings the music to life, as a web of futuristic coloured orbs light up and dim according to his improvisational live production techniques. Guaranteed to inspire non-stop head bobbing, prepare to be hypnotized by this aural and visual wonder.
