THE MAPLE TRAIL ALBUM LAUNCH TOUR

The Maple Trail, the solo project of Sydney-based musician Aidan Roberts, will launch his stunning new album Cable Mount Warning in Sydney and Melbourne.

Catch The Maple Trail at The Gasometer in Melbourne on Tuesday 24 April (Anzac Day Eve), and at The Vanguard in Sydney on Thursday 3 May.

With Cable Mount Warning, out now on Broken Stone Records, The Maple Trail charges forth in a calamitous chorus of layered, epic, bright and summery folk songs. Roberts describes the albums sound as similar to “Bryter Layter (Nick Drake) and Tubular Bells (Mike Oldfield)”. The Maple Trail will take you down a dark winding path and then throw you into the light.

His third solo album, Cable Mount Warning is a change of scenery and method. The album is an exercise in writing over 18 months, spanning across New Zealand, at home in the Blue Mountains, and recorded amongst the clutter and kipple of his new urban home studio in Stanmore, Sydney. Roberts focused almost exclusively on recording acoustic instruments, and the album was mixed with Liam Judson, long time collaborator and co-songwriter in Belles Will Ring. The result is the most concise and buoyant exhibition of The Maple Trail’s sound to date.

THE MIGHTY BOOSH’S JULIAN BARRATT MAKES VIDEO DIRECTING DEBUT IN NEW TANLINES VIDEO

Tanlines have just revealed the video for new single ‘All Of Me’ taken from their new album Mixed Emotions and directed by The Mighty Boosh’s Julian Barratt.

The video marks the music video directorial debut of UK comedy legend Julian Barratt of The Mighty Boosh. The collaboration between Barratt and the band was a combination of brazen wishful thinking and good luck.

Tanlines, who are influenced by Barratt, toyed with the possibility of listing the Mighty Boosh as a creative partner in their liner notes. Word reached Barratt, who after listening to an early version of the album realized ‘All of Me’ served as a perfect musical counterpoint to some of the imagery he was interested in exploring, and an opportunity to experiment making music videos. So shockingly, he dove in.

Barratt says, “At the time I wrote the treatment, I was watching a particular film by Fabrice Du Welz called ‘The Ordeal’ which is a really good, strange, macabre film with some really interesting movement and dance bits in that…I’m always trying to do anything between comedy and horror. Because you have such a strong flavor with Tanlines’ music, it’s quite fun to offset that with bleak imagery.”

The video stars the band performing on an old-timey late-night television show to an elderly crowd jiltedly moving together, doing something just short of dancing. It is mysterious, funny, macabre and a definite must-see:

VIDEO: CEREMONY ‘ADULT’

Spin premieres the new video for Ceremony‘s affecting “Adult,” off their album “Zoo.” Directed by BRV BLK BRD, aka Adrien Colón, the video explores the song’s theme of retaining the passions and vitality of youth amid the orthodoxy of adulthood.

VIDEO: THE BIG PINK ‘GIVE IT UP’

Today VEVO premiered the new video for the latest track from The Big Pink’s recently released album, Future This. ‘Give It Up’ offers a fitting snapshot of that record, both anthemic and strangely personal, and as such continues The Big Pink’s series of memorable singles. Directed by Rob Hawkins.
