NEW VIDEO: SBTRKT ‘HOLD ON’

Check out the brand new clip for ‘Hold On’. Directed by Sam Pilling, the video features a haunting, painful scene that replays for the protagonist. An eerie clip that holds up to the tracks own icy pleas and textures.

NED COLLETTE & WIREWALKER TO RELEASE NEW ALBUM | FREE MP3

Ned Collette and Wirewalker return with their much anticipated second album 2, set for release on Friday 11 May 2012 via Dot Dash / Remote Control.

It’s been the over two years since Melbourne musician Ned Collette relocated to Berlin. Written mostly during Collette’s first year in the German capital, 2 explores themes of distance and restarting, taking up arms against the neighbours, fantasies of death and decline after the party, butterflies, salad, altering cities and forgotten home. The album also features an instrumental tribute to late Chilean writer Roberto Bolaño.

Most of the album was recorded between Collette in Berlin and Joe Talia in Melbourne, with Talia spending six weeks in Berlin over May and June in 2011 to further expand on their recordings. Collette came to Melbourne in October 2011 and finalised the mixes of nine songs, many of which have codas courtesy of Talia.

While this is the second Wirewalker record, the title 2 also refers to the fact that the album is essentially a collaboration between Collette and Talia, with regular Wirewalker member Ben Bourke taking time off to be with his young family in Melbourne.

Ned Collette & Wirewalker are kindly offering a free download of ‘Happy Heart’, the first track taken from 2.

ALABAMA SHAKES TAKE SXSW BY STORM

Alabama Shakes have taken the world by storm with their recent performances at SXSW in Austin, Texas.

Performing to sold out crowds and receiving standing ovations over multiple nights, Alabama Shakes have made their mark as a major new rock and roll band, with everyone from the Los Angeles Times to Rolling Stone USA praising their talents.

Boys & Girls, the hypnotic, show-stopping debut album from Alabama Shakes, will be released on 6 April 2012 via Rough Trade / Remote Control.

Listen to Alabama Shakes perform live from SXSW:

“It’s not hard to recognize greatness like this” StarTribune

“Howard is a performer who instantly demands the spotlight. She stomps, she howls, she hollers and she grooves, tackling vintage soul and blues with the rock ‘n’ roll ferocity of Jack White.” Los Angeles Times

“Billed as one of this year’s must-see acts at SXSW, the group delivered on their hype” Rolling Stone USA

“To say that the Alabama Shakes live up to the hyperbolically positive advance buzz is an understatement—they aren’t just the best band at SxSW, they might be the best, most authentic new American band of the 21st Century.” Hyper Vocal

“Brittany Howard might be the most exciting young indie-soul singer in the game … Best New Artist. You heard it here first.” Oakland Tribune

“Armed with a bright new batch of songs from the forthcoming Boys & Girls — not to mention booming, shout-along standbys like ‘Hold On’ — lead singer Brittany Howard seemed to feed off a crowd 2,000 strong and packed to the exits. Commanding the spotlight with a generous set worthy of a headliner, Alabama Shakes ought to get used to playing for this many people in years to come.” NPR

“Their raucous live shows are already the stuff of legend … the future is theirs for the taking” NME

SPACEGHOSTPURRP TO RELEASE DEBUT 4AD ALBUM

Hailing from Miami, FL, SpaceGhostPurrp, who spearheads the Raider Klan Mafia, was born on April 1st, 1991; a date that has subsequently become known to him and his followers as ‘Purrp Day’. Cast in the classic mould of producer/MC, his musical influences read like a checklist of hip-hop touchstones – Three 6 Mafia, UGK, DJ Paul, Eazy E, Tupac and DJ Screw – revealing him as a true connoisseur of the gloriously weird and wonderful. Given his age, the reference to such rich heritage shows Purrp as a child of the digital era; his rhymes veering between the hallucinogenic, somnambulant and visceral, his productions syrup-thick, schizophrenic and refreshingly off-kilter. Hard to pin down, his choice of language is an intriguing invite into his murky world, with the track titles alone a playful assault on audience expectations.

The album, ‘Chronicles of SpaceGhostPurrp’ compiles both new and old material, tracking the early years of this intoxicating prodigal talent.

‘No Evidence’ is available for free download below.

Chronicles of SpaceGhostPurrp is out June 8 via 4AD / Remote Control.
