Melbourne musician Chet Faker will launch his debut EP Thinking In Textures across the east coast this April.

Catch Chet Faker at The Toff in Town in Melbourne on Saturday 21 April, Alhambra Lounge in Brisbane on Friday 27 April, and Goodgod in Sydney on Saturday 28 April.

Hailing from the tight-knit disco and house music scene in Melbourne and taking elements from an acoustic past, Chet Faker has carved out a unique style that fuses personal stories of love and loss with an electronica soul that reaches far beyond his homeland.

Shrouded in secrecy, hidden behind an alias and disguised by a beard, Chet Faker enjoys mystery. He came to everyone’s attention when his cover of Blackstreet’s classic ‘No Diggity’ hit #1 on Hype Machine, the worldwide indie music aggregator. But far from rushing into the limelight, Chet built on the popularity of ‘No Diggity’ through a series of tracks released online, creating an insatiable hunger from fans for more from this part jazz, part soul and part electronic artist.

Chet’s debut EP Thinking in Textures will be released on 23 March 2012 through Opulent / Remote Control in Australia, and on 26 March 2012 on Chess Club Records in the UK and Opulent in the US. First single ‘Terms and Conditions’ is a gorgeously penned track that has been garnering airplay across the globe – everyone from FBi Radio in Sydney and Triple R in Melbourne to Mary-Anne Hobbs of XFM in London have been playing the track, with over 17,000 listens on Soundcloud in under three weeks. BBC Radio 1’s Zane Lowe (UK) has also been playing EP track ‘I’m Into You’ on his Next Hype segment.

Having recently performed in Los Angeles as a guest of KCRW’s heralded music guru Chris Douridas, Chet Faker is poised on the next phase of his development. Chet Faker recently supported Toro y Moi and Washed Out in Australia, and will be returning to the US in March to perform at SXSW, including a set at the influential Filter Magazine Party.

Beirut has released the new video for Vagabond, from their 2011 full-length The Rip Tide.

The black-and-white clip, directed by Sunset Television, plays off the track’s title, with the feel of a low-budget 1940s war film.

The video, shot at the Greenpoint, Brooklyn hall Warsaw, pictures a group of soldiers and sailors “flirting with nurses and hard-living local girls at a dance,” the directors said. It was inspired by the aesthetic of Milos Forman films from the 1960s. The directors added, “With all the smoking, drinking, and advanced pregnancy, the video will probably be banned from MTV, so we hope lots of people enjoy it on the internet.”

New Zealand reggae-soul heavyweights The Black Seeds will release their highly anticipated new studio album Dust And Dirt on April 13 through Remote Control Records.

The long awaited follow up to 2008’s Solid Ground, Dust and Dirt marks an exciting new chapter for the multi platinum selling New Zealand band whose fan base has spread around the world in recent years.

Self recorded and produced in their Wellington studio, the new 13-track album introduces new sounds and styles not heard on previous releases whilst still remaining true to the band’s roots.

‘’Working in our own studio gave us the freedom to get the best out of ourselves over a longer period of time, and to trial new techniques and tones with Mike Fabulous at the controls’’ says singer/guitarist Barnaby Weir.

The result is an album that truly reflects the sum of its parts with all six band members injecting their influences and creative energies into the album’s 13 tracks.

From the get-go, album opener ‘Out of Light’ with it’s shimmering keyboards and trippy vocals showcases a re-invigorated band with a more expansive sound. ‘Loose Cartilage’, inspired in part by an AC/DC concert comes flying out of the traps with a beast of a riff before slipping into a funk-laden Black Seeds groove. The chilled-out disco dub of ‘Don’t Turn Around’, born out of a spontaneous jam before rehearsal, and the blaring horn line and varied use of instrumentation on ‘Love Me Now’, are testament to a band at the top of their game, revelling in their new found creative freedom.

First single ‘Pippy Pip’, will be released on 28th February and will be available for a limited time as a free download from the band’s website.

Renowned globally for their epic live shows, and on the back of their performance at the 2011 Splendour In the Grass Festival, The Black Seeds will return in June for club shows throughout Australia.

Dust And Dirt will be available from all good retailers on digital, CD, plus limited edition heavy weight 12’’ double gatefold vinyl. A limited number of collector’s edition pre-sale packages will be available from the band’s website from March 12. Fans will also get the opportunity to hear the album before the release date.

Dust And Dirt is out 13 April 2012 through Remote Control.

Australian tour dates to be announced shortly.
