The Maple Trail, the solo project of Sydney-based musician Aidan Roberts, will release his latest album Cable Mount Warning in February 2012 via Broken Stone Records.
New single ‘The Dinosaur Hunters’ is a trip into the wilderness of Cable Mount Warning. Trumpets, acoustic sounds and fuzzy guitar solos take flight on wooden wings in what is an excellent taste of what will be forthcoming in February 2012. ‘The Dinosaur Hunters’ is available as a free download via Bandcamp.
With Cable Mount Warning, The Maple Trail charges forth in a calamitous chorus of layered, epic, bright and summery folk songs. Roberts describes the albums sound as similar to “Bryter Layter (Nick Drake) and Tubular Bells (Mike Oldfield)”. The Maple Trail will take you down a dark winding path and then throw you into the light.
His third solo album, Cable Mount Warning is a change of scenery and method. The album is an exercise in writing over 18 months, spanning across New Zealand, at home in the Blue Mountains, and recorded amongst the clutter and kipple of his new urban home studio in Stanmore, Sydney. Roberts focused almost exclusively on recording acoustic instruments, and the album was mixed with Liam Judson, long time collaborator and co-songwriter in Belles Will Ring. The result is the most concise and buoyant exhibition of The Maple Trail’s sound to date.
